Baron Philippe de Rothschild - Escudo Rojo Chardonnay Reserva 2022
Vineyard Story
In the late 90's Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, true to the pioneering spirit of its founder, Baron Philippe, decided to start making wine in Chile. What attracted Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Baron Philippe's daughter, was the potential of the Chilean terroir and the possibility of making high-quality branded wines
that met her exacting requirements.
Protected by the natural barriers of the Andes Mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Chile's central region enjoys exceptional climatic conditions. The richness of its soil and the variety of climates there give rise to an extraordinary diversity of terroir. Baron Philippe de Rothschild takes advantage of this patchwork of terroirs to create highly distinctive wines that are a byword for quality and excellence.
The Valle de Casablanca
The Valle de Casablanca or Casablanca Valley, is one of Chile's most renowned wine regions, located about 75 km northwest of Santiago and just inland from the Pacific Ocean. Established as a wine-producing area in the late 20th century, it is particularly celebrated for its cool-climate wines, especially whites.
Nestled between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean in central Chile, its proximity to the Pacific plays a key role in its climate.
Key Grape Varieties
White Wines:
Sauvignon Blanc: Crisp and aromatic, with notes of citrus, green apple, and herbal undertones.
Chardonnay: Known for its balance of vibrant acidity and flavors of tropical fruits, often with a subtle minerality.
Red Wines:
Pinot Noir: Light-bodied with bright red fruit, floral notes, and earthy undertones, benefiting from the valley's cooler climate.
Syrah and Merlot are also produced, though they are less common than the whites.
Whites, particularly Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, are internationally recognized for their quality, while Pinot Noir is growing in reputation.
Many wineries in the valley are committed to sustainable and organic farming practices.
